Christmas Nutcracker FAQs
What size nutcracker fits a mantel?
The classic mantel size is 15 inches — tall enough to stand out, short enough to sit under most mirrors and garlands. The 18 and 19.5-inch picks here suit a fireplace hearth or entry table, while the 8-inch Pizza Guy fits a shelf or a stocking-stuffer budget.
Are nutcrackers just decorations, or do they actually crack nuts?
Most decorative nutcrackers have a working lever jaw, like the Ornativity figures here — but they are made for display first. If you want a working nutcracker for actual nuts, buy a purpose-built metal one, not a painted wooden soldier.
What is a Hollywood Nutcracker?
Hollywood Nutcrackers is Kurt Adler's whimsical collection, designed by Holly Adler — bright, characterful soldiers and novelty figures, from classic red-and-black guards to a pizza chef. Five of the ten picks here are from that line.
Do unfinished nutcrackers make good gifts?
Yes — the two unfinished sets here are made for it. Paint them in the recipient's colors, or give them unpainted as a family craft project; the 12-pack splits into a dozen small gifts or one big decorating afternoon.
